Tom Nichols is one of those rare musicians who has a 360 degree view of what it takes to create and perform great music in a variety of genres. He’s also an inspirational artist who believes in music’s incredible ability to heal, inspire and unite.
During his 35 years of creating, performing and producing music, Tom has become an accomplished musician. He’s written and collaborated on hundreds of songs that range from classical, folk, rock and popular, as well as inspirational music and several improvisational piano and instrumental works. In addition, he co-produced an independent musical on film, directed a variety of choirs and has taught both guitar and voice for aspiring musicians. Over the course of his career, he’s produced 11 full length albums and performed at numerous live events at famed venues, including the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall and Boston Symphony Hall, as well as internationally in Canada, Europe and Africa. Yet some of his favorite performances have been in smaller venues closer to his home in Falls Church, Va., including the Spectrum Theatre (Rosslyn, Va.) and Bethesda Theater (Bethesda, Md.) where he has debuted several of his songs. As an accomplished singer/songwriter, guitarist, pianist, recording engineer and producer, Tom has received numerous accolades for his art, including high honors from the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest for Perfect Circle of Gold and Wind to Carry Me. Tom’s just released album, TRUST, was received with great acclaim and consistently favorable reviews (MW, Falls Church News Press and I Am Music). There is a driving force behind Tom’s music and producing that brings a special emotional connection for listeners and for other singer/songwriters he’s produced—and that’s a desire to give back to others—from individuals to organizations to entire communities. It was this desire that inspired Tom to become the lead producer on a national project with one of the world’s largest hotel companies. This two-year project generated dollars for downloads that benefitted numerous charitable organizations. As part of the project, Tom produced 10 separate songs that generated $100,000 for national organizations such as Rebuilding Together, the Boys and Girls Clubs and Operation Smile. The culminating song of the dollars for downloads program was particularly special to Tom as it was a song he wrote, performed and produced to benefit the It Gets Better Project. The song, TRUST, is featured on Tom’s recently released album by the same name. “I am driven to write and produce songs that inspire people to do great things,“ says Tom. “Music has the ability to unlock obstacles in life, in relationships. It removes fear and replaces it with the power of possibilities and imagination. It allows people to live honestly, and that inspires me in everything I do musically. “ Tom is able to take that honesty into the studio—whether he’s recording an album of his own or producing the works of others. By weaving his technical and creative expertise, he’s earned the trust and respect of musicians and producers alike. He cares for their music as if it were his own—and through that he’s able to find the greatness in their works and give it a chance to be born. Tom earned his business degree from Virginia Tech and is also a graduate of The Recording Workshop (a recording engineering school) in Chillicothe, Ohio. Accomplished in the business world as well, Tom is the chief financial officer for The Heinz Center. He previously served as the chief financial officer for the World Wildlife Fund and The African Wildlife Foundation. |

Tom Nichols - TRUST -- Coming Fall 2011
Friends,
I'm excitied to be in the final stages of recording and mixing my first CD called: Tom Nichols - TRUST TRUST is a collection of songs I have composed over the past several years and I'm looking forward to sharing them with you. Here are the songs and a bit about each of them... some of them appear here on REVERBNATION in their final but unmastered form... TRUST The Wind to Carry Me - written in gratitude to those who have carried me through the process of discovery and gave me the strength to chose to be a full time composer/engineer/producer. Every Now and Then - when we lose someone we love, I think we would want them to know no matter where our journey takes us, we will never forget them and they remain a part of the us... in our hearts. TRUST - a friend can find a way to hold us up, even when we are filled with fear, or have experienced great loss in our lives... sometimes all we can do is trust that someday we may just live into the answers of our many questions. Rest in Your Love - written for my brother and his wife. He is a thoughtful and wise man and she is a brilliant beautiful woman so when they finally found each other, love won out over fear. Sweetest Dreams - Holly Montgomery and I wrote a song based on the poetry of Poetress Kai Croft. This song is fill with all the longing of and hopefulness of a romantic. Artist's Loving Hand - Sometimes when love dies, so do our hearts. All the things we held most important and used as our guidepost no seem suddenly blurred and vague. Then miraculously, we meet someone who reminds us that our story is still unfolding...there is life again...there is hope for the future, and like two unfinished water colors, we are brought to life, by the Artist's loving hand. One Voice - this is a song about breaking through the many distractions in life and finding your life's purpose and that your voice can become a powerful force of hope and peace in the world. Free to Fall - Sometimes we let fear rule our lives. We forget that if we want to be loved, we must first love. This is a song about breaking through the fear of falling... of falling in love and of falling from love... Questions of the Heart - It is hard to watch the one you love suffer and pull away. If you are like me, you want to be the one person that can make a difference in their life. Sometimes that is just not enough and in the process you allow yourself to become broken and tormented. Change the World - written with Peter Fox and Holly Montgomery to benefit the October 2010 DC AIDS walk, this is a song of hope for those we have lost to AIDS and for those left behind. It encourages us to see through all the potential of those we have lost by making a difference in this world. Leave Comment: |
